Joe Diffie uses the word -- and I use the word "word" loosely here -- "ungone" in one of his songs, Good News Bad News. This is why I hate country. Here I was, jamming out, grooving to the song, thinking he sounds a bunch like Merle Haggard, I can dig this, and then he has to go and use a "word" like "ungone."

I played this over here yesterday.
And, man, were they sweet! And they barely even sounded at all without the headphones on! They'd be much nicer to pack around then a regular acoustic set, and you could always mike the occasional real drum... I'm open to a mix of electronic and acoustic ones, myself...
Percussion is percussion... It doesn't matter so much WHAT you hit, as long as YOUR HIT produces a cool noise...

The David Lean version of the early 1950's starring Alec Guiness as Fagin is excellent, though it often gets a lot of flack for anti-semitic overtones. You should definitely see the film version of the musical which is wonderful, though it differs slightly from the version that you see on stage. Several roles are shortened, notably Mr. Bumble and the Widow Corney, and many scenes are altered. You will also notice that the singing voice of Oliver has been overdubbed by a woman, which can be a bit jarring.

Should I go for the basic setup and get a killer Mackie mixer with a firewire out option and keep it simple, or should I go right for the professional option and get a MOTU unit with more options and you can shake a pointed stick at? The MOTU works standalone as a mixer, but the goal is multitrack recording.

Gravity
I left home when I was seventeen
I just grew tired of falling down
And I'm sure I was told
The allure of the road
Would be all I found
And all the answers that I started with
Turned out questions in the end
So years roll on by
And just like the sky
The road never ends
And the people who love me still ask me
When are you coming back to town
And I answer quite frankly
When they stop building roads
And all God needs is gravity to hold me down

Of course, me producing my music is different. That's usually been a very private thing.

I finally coaxed one of my guitars into modeling with my new Panama hat. This guitar is pretty shy; she's fairly well-traveled, hailing from Japan, and getting on in years. She's a classical, Spanish-style, six-string acoustic. Nylon strings. Pretty much your standard nylon-string classical.
But have you ever heard slide on one of these? Since I'm not able to afford a Martin D-28 right now, I'm sticking to the ol' classical for a while, for pure, acoustic, bluegrass. What this means is that anytime I pick up a decent six string steel acoustic, I'm transported into a different world, a world were I can finger those chords like none other, and where the pickin' sounds great...

Well, I started playing a Bob Dylan song on the ol' guitar, and I could actually smell the pot very strongly. Or maybe it's the beer I've been drinking causing a sense-thingy. I dunno know.

I really wanna play here, I wanna play this here guitar
You know I really want to stay here, I wanna show you what I'm all about
I want to rock and roll and drink 'til the break of dawn
I didn't drive a thousand miles to sulk and have no fun
Fuck that hotel room, I'll break the TV
We came here for music and when we get it, we're gonna leave

Oh, the Gadjits are awesome. Many a time I've made eyes at a beautiful little sumthing while my sub thumps out one of the Gadjits' base lines. Those good ol' hi-skool days! I love this band. Actually, I just bought a new (to me) cd of their's. 'Twas good to see you at Hurwitz's.

I had no reason to be over-optimistic,
But somehow when you smile, I could brave bad weather.

Eric, over at Straight White Guy talks about his guitar-playing, and it struck a chord with me, and with the things I've always said about myself.
… I have an old Fender that I bang on from time to time… I taught myself to fingerpick it back when I was 16, and I’ve never looked back… I always viewed my playing as a very private thing.. not for anyone else… when I wanted to play, I’d isolate myself… the back porch.. the garage… and I would play my music…

This was my response on his blog, and I'm posting it here, well, because this is my blog, and I do what I damn well please here. And I think every blogger has to say that phrase sometime, unless it damn well pleases him or her not to.
I feel exactly the same way, Eric.
I started teaching myself guitar when I was fifteen. My punk buddies and I had dreams of forming a band, but it was never for other people it was always for ourselves.
My guitar playing now has always been for myself. If someone walks into the room, I falter, generally. Especially if I'm trying to sing. I just can't do what I do in front of people. I'm a musician, but not a performer or entertainer.
Even recording throws me off, and I sometimes wish that someone would tap my room so I could hear it later...
I think this is because I use my music as an incredible emotional catharsis, so when I sing and play those songs people are seeing a soft underbelly that I tend to hide and protect.
My goal is to be able to sing amazingly well and on-key in another 15-20 years... Then maybe I can share with others...or maybe not.

I just renamed the Bob Dylan's music folder on my hard drive to "Bob." Because it's about time.

MC has a very similar set in the music room. A lot of fun to use them, and you don't distract other musicians at the same time.
Dmoose
Are those Tim N's old ones? I know he had some V-Drums a few years back that he was trying to sell...
